Skirt Sports, inventor of the original fitness skirt and leader in the women’s fitness apparel industry, was featured on CNN’s “Sanjay Gupta, M.D.” with Dr. Sanjay Gupta as part of his on-going “Fit Nation” platform following a group of beginner triathletes as they prepare to compete in the Nautica New York City Triathlon on August 7, 2011. The triathletes, dubbed the “6-pack,” are six CNN viewers from all walks of life chosen to train and compete at the end-of-summer trialthon. Last week, 6-pack members converged on one of the world’s top triathlete-friendly resorts, The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows in Hawaii to attend a training camp featuring special guest coaches, Skirt Sports CEO Nicole DeBoom and her husband, two-time Ironman World Champion, Tim DeBoom. A podcast of the show is available for download at http://www.cnn.com/services/podcasting/popups/gupta.html.
“Assisting the CNN 6-pack with their training in Hawaii was an inspirational experience,” said Nicole DeBoom, founder and CEO of Skirt Sports. “Tim and I spent a week getting to know the athletes and assisting with workouts and how-to seminars. Each member of the 6-pack team is working to overcome a personal obstacle whether obesity, unemployment, age, cultural barriers, etc., so it was amazing to personally watch them experience the transformative powers of fitness. The trip was life changing for everyone involved.”
Gupta launched the multi-platform “Fit Nation” initiative to help fight obesity and inspire Americans to lead healthier lives. He will compete in the New York City triathlon this August with the “Fit Nation” 6-pack participants and also took part in the Hawaii camp. In her role as a special guest coach for the camp, DeBoom, a former professional triathlete, provided the 6-pack with expert tips, motivational strategies and advice for completing their first triathlon. DeBoom also assisted the beginners with their swim, bike and run sessions. The three female members of the 6-pack spent the week-long training camp working out in Skirt Sports apparel including multisport tops, bottoms, cycling jerseys, and running skirts.
